So, on Saturday mornings we have our group runs. This past Saturday I did 3 miles but, because I've been having some problems with my shins, the coach had made me walk the last .5 or so. Frustrated, she told me it was shin splints and informed me to take the next 3 days and rest it...no running, no walking, no cross-training...only rest, ice, and motrin. Now, a few months from now I might have been excited to have the rest but when you are in the beginning stages of this type of training, you have to stay motivated. Needless to say, I was frustrated...but not deterred!
I followed coach's orders and rested Sunday through Tuesday. But that brings us to tomorrow...back to the pavement. 3 miles to do. My shins have been feeling good so I'm anxious to see how they feel after my run tomorrow. Check back to see how it turns out!

Here we go...
If you have read the description of my blog, I have begun training for a half-marathon. More specifically, I am completing this adventure through Team in Training. With TNT, I am raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This is such an amazing cause!! The money raised by participants of TNT goes to fund research for various blood cancers and diseases and also goes to various patient services. I am so excited to become a part of an organization that is so focused on finding a cure!
So, while in return for my fundraising, I am a part of a group that will be training over the next 5 months. Our goal: the Nike Women's Half/Full Marathon in San Francisco! Training consists of runs and cross-training during the week and longer group runs on Saturday mornings. I've just finished Week 3 and I'm still going! (Some problems with the shins this past week but I'm still going!)
I hope you will follow along in my adventure! I've never run more than a 5k and truly believe this will be an amazing adventure! And while I'm fortunate enough to train and run for this cause, I have to remind you of the greater reason: to help find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and the countless other forms of cancers that affect us all. I have no doubt that all of you who read this have been affected by some form of cancer, either personally or through someone you love. So, please, make a donation for them in the hopes that we can get closer to finding a cure.

And continue to read as I run and build up to race day! (and feel free to offer advice and encouragement!!) Here we go....
